Habitat Description:
Moderately moist to dry slopes, meadows, and streambanks from the valleys to subalpine and alpine situations.
Distribution Range:
Southeastern Washington, norhteastern Oregon (and on Steens Moutain), extreme northeastern corner of Nevada, Idaho to southwestern Montana, Wyoming (except southwestern corner), northeastern Utah (Uinta Mountains), Colorado, and north New Mexico.

Other Notes:
Variety rydbergii as circumscribed here may include an undescribed variety from the Rocky Mountains of Colorado where the plants are consistently noticeably pubescent and calyx-segments have exceptionally broad, deeply erose to lacerate-scarious margins.
