Other Notes:
Penstemon virgatus can be distinguished from P. pseudoputus by certain characters. An F1 hybrid involving P. barbatus var. torreyi (Benth.) A. Gray, with a red-violet corolla, a more or less projecting upper lip, and a reflexed lower lip is sometimes encountered.
