Habitat Description:
Locally abundant in the shade of pinyon and juniper trees, scattered in protected sites along washes.
Distribution Range:
Apparently endemic to southwestern Utah on the slopes of the Pine Valley Mountains.

Other Notes:
The species is named for its association with Pinus monophylla Torr. & Frem., the single-needled pinyon pine, and for its location in the species-rich Pine Valley Mountains, where two pinyon species, P. edulis Engelm. and P. monophylla, occur together with P. ponderosa Laws., P. ongaeva D. K. Bailey, and P. flexilis James. Other associated species include Cercocarpus mountanus Raf., Juniperus osteosperma (Torr.) Little, Rhus trilobata Nutt., Quercus gambelii Nut., Mahonia fremontii (Torr.) Fedde, Salvia dorrii (Kell.) Abrams, and Penstemon confusus M. E. Jones.
