Habitat Description:
Rocky or sandy woods and old fields. In prairies & rocky, deciduous forests.
Distribution Range:
North Carolina to Arkansas, Iowa, and Vermont. Kansas: Douglas, Jefferson, Wilson; Missouri: Barton, Cass, Vernon.
Soil Type:
Loamy to sandy loam soil.
Other Notes:
Pennell, op. cit., suggested P. pallidus has extended its range in a manner similar to P. digitalis and P. tubaeflorus, although it is impossible to delimit precisely the native range of the species. It is thought that the species originally occupied the Mississippi River and Ohio River valleys from north Arkansas into Iowa and Illinois and east up the Ohio River into New England.
