Habitat Description: 
Found in an area far distant from either of the other species to which it is most closely related.
Distribution Range: 
Collected in the Sierra Madre Occidental, sixty miles south of Guadalupe and Calvo, Chihuahua.

Other Notes: 

This species differs from P. gentianoides in its acute rather than acuminate leaves, which are finely puberulent on the upper surfaces, and from P. leonensis in its somewhat larger flowers. The name, occiduus, alludes to its western location.
