Habitat Description: 
It is found in open pine woods or margins of clearings.
Distribution Range: 
Native of extreme southwestern Chihuahua, where it is known only from the vicinity of Cerro Mohinora, southwest of Guadalupe and Calvo.

Other Notes: 

It is visited by hummingbirds and possibly by some bees, as is P. hartwegii, which it most closely resembles in shape and size of flower. Its flowers, however, seem to have much less of the purple shades than those of P. hartwegii. The name derives from the type locality.
