Habitat Description: 
In sparse sagebrush and juniper communities. Sandy or gravelly slopes of the Great Basin region, Arid Transition Zone.
Distribution Range: 
South Baker County and the north 2/3 of Malheur County, Oregon. Southeastern Oregon and adjacent Idaho to Lassen County, California, and central Nevada. Type locality: Malheur River, Oregon.
Soil Type: 
Diatomite and ash soils, often weathered to clay.

Other Notes: 

Plants from the diatomite soils of the Malheur River area (including the type) are equally pubescent on both surfaces of the leaves, whereas those from ash soils of the Succor Creek area and from northeast Malheur Co. and adjacent baker Co. are pubescent on the upper leaf surface and glabrous below.
