In sagebrush, oak, manzanita, ponderosa pine, aspen, spruce, limber pine, and bristlecone pine associations.

Distribution Range:

Wilson Creek Range, Lincoln County, Snake, south Schell Creek, Egan, and Grant ranges, White Pine County and northeast Nye County, Nevada.

Other Notes:

P. leiophyllus has been expanded to include P. francisci-pennellii of east-central Nevada and P. keckii of the Charleston Mountains of southern Nevada. As a unit these taxa constitute a sharply delimited species with a distinctive patch of gland-tipped hairs inside the corolla at the base of the upper lip.
