Alpine, above 3050 m; rocky soils.
Distribution Range:
Near and above timberline in the Colorado mountains from Gray's and Pike's Peaks, southwestward to the San Juan and La Plata Mountains, mostly along the Continental Divide.

In rocky, or gravelly soils.

Other Notes:
Etymology: halli- for Elihu Hall, 1822-1882, Illinois botanist who collected widely in the western states.
Some websites and descriptions indicate this species has hairy anthers. This is not the usual character state, and may be the result of hybridization. Other species in the Habroanthus group hybridize, and may pass on the hairy anther state via introgression. (Andi Wolfe - personal observation)
