In sagebrush-Symphoricarpos vegetation. Open coniferous woods, Canadian and Hudsonian Zones.

Distribution Range:

Northeast California and adjacent Nevada from Lake Tahoe region of the Sierra Nevada to Mt. Shasta and Warner Mountains; entering the region in the Granite Range and on Catnip Mountain of north Washoe County, Nevada. Southern Lake County, Oregon.

Soil Type:

Lava and granite soils. Rather dry soils.
