Habitat Description:
Sandy and calcareous soils in prairie habitat.
Distribution Range:
Throughout west Texas, east Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma and west Kansas. Guthrie, Greenlees County, and in Cochise County, not common.

Calcareous, rocky, sandy soil.

"In north-central and northeast New Mexico, P. fendleri is sympatric with P. secundiflorus, a closely related species of section Coerulei. In this area of sympatry, Nisbet and Jackson indicate there may be some intorgressive hybridization between the two species." - McGregor et al. 1986
This species is named after August Fendler (1813 - 1883).
