Penstemon deustus var. suffrutescens
There are four varieties of Penstemon deustus: deustus, pedicellatus, suffrutescens, and variabilis. Variety suffrutescens is found only in the Siskiyous of southern Oregon, and variety variabilis occurs in Oregon from the north central region to the Columbia River. Variety pedicellatus ranges from southeastern Oregon and adjacent Idaho southwards through western Nevada and adjacent California. Variety deustus is the most widespread in distribution, ocurring from north-central Washington, through southern Idaho and adjacent nw Wyoming and sw Montana, continuing south and east through northern Utah, Nevada, and California. The stamen filaments and staminodes are unusual in being glandular puberulent.
