Habitat Description:
In sagebrush, juniper, pinyon-juniper, oak, and ponderosa pine communities.
Distribution Range:
Southwest and south-central Wyoming, northwest Colorado, and northeast Utah (in the Uinta Mountains and south of Woodruff, Rich County and east rim of Strawberry Valley, Wasatch County). and a disjunct station in the Confusion Range, Millard County, Utah.

Other Notes:
Penstemon caespitosus is a mat-forming species with three varieties. Older plants form large mats (one or more feet in diameter). Flowers are usually borne two to a node.
