Penstemon kralii differs from P. tenuis in its generally wider leaves, paler lavender to nearly white corollas, preference for rocky, calcareous woodlands, and Southern Appalachian distribution. Penstemon kralii differs from P. smallii in its much smaller corollas that are pale lavender to nearly white and in its lance-attenuate and strongly recurved sepals.
