Other Notes: 

Penstemon gibbensii belongs in section Glabri (Rydb.) Pennell, and most closely resembles P. cyananthus Hook., P. fremontii, and P. saxosorum. It differs from P. saxosorum by having stems pubescent to near the base, mostly narrower leaves, and corollas pubescent inside and out. Penstemon gibbensii differs from P. fremontii in the glandular inflorescence, longer sepals, and mostly narrower leaves. P. gibbensii differs from P. cyananthus primarily in the pubescence and the much narrower leaves.
