Habitat Description: 
Sagebrush and pinyon-juniper communities, along washes and canyon floors.
Distribution Range: 
Hills of the east Sierra Nevada at the north end of Owens valley and the White Mountains of Mono and north Inyo County, California, south to the Silver peak Range of Esmeralda County, Nevada. Type locality: Mount Magruder, Nevada.
Soil Type: 
Usually in gravelly soil.

Other Notes: 
Penstemon floridus is divisible into two geographically replacing varieties. In the southern White Mountains and the southern end of the Silver Peak Range where the two varieties meet, there is apparent hybridization and intergradation.
