Habitat Description: 
Dry places, usually in pinyon-juniper-sagebrush associations.
Distribution Range: 
"West parts of Mesa and Montrose counties, Colorado, and in Utah in the Canyon Lands, on the slopes of the LaSal Mountains and mesas in vicinity of Dead Horse Point, Grand and San Juan counties and at the edge of the desert along the north Wasatch Plateau and West Tavaputs Plateau, Emery and Carbon counties." Penstemon cyanocaulis is not reported to be much in cultivation, but it would make a lovely addition to any garden. Members of the American Penstemon Society who have grown it report it to be easy to maintain.
