"Plants in the Raft River Mountains (Box Co., Utah) represent an extreme form of var. subglaber with short calyx-segments and relatively narrow leaves...Variety subglaber hybridizes with P. perpulcher in the Cache Peak (Albion) Mountains, Cassia Co., Idaho. Plants in subalpine meadows of Mt. Timpanogos are smaller, with decumbent stems and subcapitate inflorescences. This form may be just a phenotypic expression of the harsh mountain climate." Holmgren (1984).
