There is no statement regarding the type, but the original description appeared in a paper read by Dr. Kellogg before the California Academy on new genera and species of plants found by Dr. John A. Veatch, at Cedros Island.

During a field trip to Isla de Cedros in May, 2018 (with colleagues from UNAM and INECOL), we observed populations at multiple sites, with all occurring on rocky scree from Sandstone formations. At lower elevations, just a few flowers were observed, at 1115 m (May 13, 2018), a very large metapopulation was observed in full bloom, with some stems carrying fruits. (Andi Wolfe).
